Dog Ownership

Every dog, on any property, over the age of six (6) months must be registered and microchipped.

Fines are applicable for unregistered and/or unmicrochipped dogs and dog behaviour that contravenes the Dog Control Act 2000.

Dog Registration fees are due annually on July 1st and are payable within thirty (30) days of the due date.
Dog Registrations forms are available from Council offices.

As of 1 July 2011, dog owners are required to have every dog, over the age of six (6) months, implanted with a microchip.  Exemptions apply for specified racing greyhounds, specified hunting dogs and all working dogs. Microchip services are available from local veterinarians or Dogs Tasmania  phone (03) 6272 9443.
