The Huon Valley Council’s Youth Service provides a range of contemporary programs and activities for young people of the Huon Valley and their families.  Some of these programs include:

School Holiday Programs

Operating in June, September and summer holidays

Keeping It Real (Young Parents Program)

The Keeping It Real program is funded by the Tasmanian Early Years Foundation to deliver a peer education project for young parents.  Young parents meet fortnightly to design and implement a program that will include a presentation in school where young parents talk to school aged students about the realities of being a young parent.

Health Workshops in Schools

Staff are well skilled to deliver a range of information workshops in schools including sexual health, relationships, drug and alcohol misuse, living independently and peer skills training.

Youth Advisory Committee

Council’s Youth Advisory Committee – a group of young people aged 14-18 years who meet monthly to discuss and act on issues that concern other young people in the Huon Valley.

Hardware Holster

A free sexual health resource that contains condoms, sexual health information and sexual health service contact numbers.  The holsters are available on a request basis only.

Youth Health Fund

Provides financial assistance concerning prescription and non-prescription health items.  Some conditions do apply.
The Council’s trained and experienced staff are available to provide support, information and referrals on housing, health, family conflict, alcohol and other drugs, crisis accommodation and much more.
The service is free and all information is treated in a strictly confidential manner.
